Research that works for developing countries and AustraliaDr Russell Haines
Dr Russell Haines is Research Program Manager for Forestry. The Program supports the establishment, management and sustainable utilisation of forests through a central theme of developing Australian tree germplasm. Dr Haines joins ACIAR from the (Australian) Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, where he was an Acting General Manager. Until late 2002, he was Chief Executive of the QLD Forestry Research Institute (QFRI), Australia’s second largest forestry research institution. He has a broad background as a forestry researcher and research manager in breeding, silviculture, water and nutrition, forest protection and product processing, and significant experience in strategic planning, financial management and business processes, including representation and negotiation at senior levels. Dr Haines also has relevant experience in managing forestry projects in many ACIAR partner countries and has strong linkages with FAO and the International Tropical Timber Organisation.
