Research need
This small research activity aims to provide technical advice and support to the Indonesian Government and stakeholders for the development and implementation of harvest strategies for tropical tuna fisheries in Indonesian archipelagic waters.
Tropical tuna fisheries are central to food security, employment, regional economic development and Indonesia’s terms of trade, with tropical tuna species representing approximately 11% of Indonesian fisheries production by weight.
The new research activity will augment data collection and harvest strategy development from a previous ACIAR investment (FIS/2016/166) and provide the opportunity to address issues that arose during the research period, including new government policies on fisheries management.
