Dr Gamini Keerthisinghe is Research Program Manager for Soil Management and Crop Nutrition. The program focuses on land and cropping systems and soil management, and concentrates at the field scale. Dr Keerthisinghe is also the Principal Regional Coordinator for the Mekong and China. This position involves identifying strategic directions and providing high-level oversight for ACIAR's program in this region, together with managing stakeholder relations both in Australia and in the Mekong and China.Dr Keerthisinghe joined ACIAR from the Food and Agriculture Organization, where he was responsible for managing the crop production portfolio of the Asia Pacific. As the leader of the agriculture group, he has led FAO team activities in natural resources management, marketing, extension and livestock programs. He was also the FAO focal point for agriculture rehabilitation activities of the 2004 tsunami. Prior to joining the FAO he worked for over six years at the Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture in Vienna managing the plant nutrition/soil program. He has also worked for CSIRO Plant Industry, International Rice Research Institute, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.
