Research that works for developing countries and AustraliaMr Barney Smith
Mr Smith has a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from the University of Queensland. He has spent much of his professional career working in the Pacific and Papua New Guinea. Mr Smith has worked as a Fisheries Biologist, Principal Biologist and Chief Biologist for the PNG Department of Agriculture Stock and Fisheries. He has also conducted consultancies for the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission on the Marquesas Islands and the FAO Regional South China Seas Program in the Philippines and Indonesia. Working for the South Pacific Commission (SPC) in New Caledonia Mr Smith has been both a Fisheries Adviser and Coordinator. He has been ACIAR’s Fisheries Program manager since 1991. Mr Smith is also a member of the SPC Standing Committee on Tuna and Billfish, the Trans Pacific Fisheries Consultative Centre, a Councillor on the Asian Fisheries Society and the South East Asian Chapter Vice President of the World Aquaculture Society.
