Approximately 85% of the 4.2 million people of the Lao PDR live in villages with livestock production an important source of cash income. Government policy to increase the standard of living includes improving livestock productivity. Achieving this will mean reducing the impact of major infectious diseases which severly constrain the smallholder livestock sector. At present there is no capability to obtain and analyse quantitative representative data. This small project aims to design and validate field survey techniques to establish priorities in livestock diseases as well as develop a computer information management system for the laboratory and field services.
