Classical Swine Fever (CSF) is claimed to be the most important infectious disease of pigs in Vietnam. Pig farming is the dominant livestock activity in the country with pig meat representing about 74% of national meat production. The aim of this project is to establish effective laboratory techniques for the diagnosis of CSF at the National Institute of Veterinary Research (NIVR) in Hanoi. The techniques will be used to study the relevance and significance of CSF in pigs in areas serviced by NIVR and collaborating institutions, and to assess the validity of laboratory procedures currently used to diagnose the disease. Some laboratory assessment of the CSF vaccine produced in Vietnam will also be tested.
