Project Background and Objectives

Since the late 1980s, many Government and non-Government organisations in Vanuatu have promoted landowner-based conservation projects. These projects have differed in their techniques, yet little is known about their relative effectiveness. This project will assess the strengths and weaknesses of different conservation projects in Vanuatu and identify successful characteristics. It will also investigate the impact in the Solomon Islands of legislation supporting landowner conservation initiatives, which has been proposed as a model for provincial by-laws in Vanuatu. This information will be used to help landowners, government and non-government agencies to conduct conservation projects more effectively.
