Project Background and Objectives

This small project aims to collaborate with, and train, PNG National Fisheries Authority (NFA) staff to support the management of the lobster, beche-de-mer, barramundi and prawn fisheries of Torres Strait and Gulf of Papua. It will also incorporate the results of the project into the Fishery Plan (as defined in PNG Fisheries Act, 1994) supporting the management of the fisheries and reports to NFA recommending future research directions to support fisheries management in Western and Gulf Provinces of PNG. NFA and CSIRO Division of Fisheries biologists will collaborate in the preparation of three scientific reports.
