They already provide a source of poles for structural use, particularly for houses and bridges in rural communities and these uses will expand as more eucalypts become available. However, the sapwood perishes with ground contact, requiring houses to be rebuilt every three years. This research proposal will develop an inexpensive, non-toxic, environmentally acceptable wood treatment which can be applied simply by dipping and wrapping.
