Project Budget: $137,750Project Duration: 01/01/1997 - 31/12/1998ACIAR Research Program Manager Dr John Fryer Project Background and Objectives Although a wide range of insect pests have been recorded in plantations of eucalypts and acacias in Asia, to date there have been few major infestation problems apart from termites. But this may change as the area of plantation forestry expands rapidly in the region (it is expected to more than double from the current 25 million hectares over the next five years). This project will gather data about current pests and the severity of their occurrence in plantations of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The information gathered will equip forest managers to identify, assess, and handle pests, and to contribute to setting priorities for further research.
