Project Budget: $149,771Project Duration: 01/07/1998 - 31/12/1999Project Extension: 31/12/1999 - 30/06/2000ACIAR Research Program Manager Dr John Fryer Project Background and Objectives The valuable tropical timber American mahogany can be ruined by termites of the genus Neotermes. Other crop trees in the South Pacific are also attacked by Neotermes. It is known that these termites can be controlled by pathogenic fungi and nematode worms. This project will gather information on the termites, their pathogens and the interactions between them and the tree species. It will evaluate the potential of biological control of the termites as well as the effect of different plantation management practices on both the pest and the control agents.
