Research that works for developing countries and AustraliaInternational Center for Tropical AgricultureOverviewAustralia, along with other developed countries work with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) on research in developing countries. Australia contributes both core funding (A$250,000 in 2005-06) and project-specific funding that helps CIAT conduct research to reduce hunger and poverty while also preserving the natural resources of developing countries. Research activities cover germplasm improvement, the development of methods and tools for improved farming systems management, including soil, water and disease and pest management. For more information about CIAT, see its website, http://www.ciat.cgiar.org. CIAT produce regular publications that give an indication of their current activities and future plans. These include an Annual Report which looks that their activities over the calendar year 2006, and a Medium-Term Plan that details their organisational direction for 2008-2010. It also includes an External Program and Management Review which is done by the CG Science Council. |
