Summary

The total value of annual vegetable production in China is more than 250 billion Yuan RMB (30 billion US dollars), and the average vegetable output per person is more than 340 kg. In 1999, China's total vegetable exports reached 2.186 million tons, which brought the country ca. 0.139 billion US dollars. Problems in vegetable pest management have have led to a greater emphasis on the production of 'green food' and great improvements have been made towards establishing an integrated IPM extension system throughout the country.
IPM is regarded as an important technique, and more efforts are required to extend the technology.
