Employee Census Results

ACIAR is pleased with its results from the 2019 Australian Public Service (APS) Annual Employee Census, having improved performance on the previous year’s results, particularly in enhanced staff engagement after a significant period of change. With a response rate of 63% and satisfaction in most categories improved.

The results of the 2019 Australian Public Service (APS) Annual Employee Census were released in July and as part of the APS wide transparency initiative, ACIAR is publishing the staff survey results on its website.

The Australian Public Service Commission has a legislative responsibility to report to Parliament each year on the ‘state of the APS’. The findings of an annual employee census, which is a focused human resource tool to measure APS staff satisfaction levels across the service, provides vital input to the ‘State of the Service’ (SOS) report.

Information is collected on attitudes and opinions of APS employees, in particular important issues including their health and wellbeing, attendance, performance management, leadership, and general engagement (impressions) in the APS.

This is an opportunity for APS employees to have their say about their working environment, agency and the broader APS.

For the first time, the results were compiled in a highlights report, which provides a full and comprehensive analysis and useful comparison.

Of note ACIAR was ranked eighth out of 97 APS agencies for ‘Wellbeing’, we also scored very high for engagement and innovation.  As a very small agency, we have a strong culture of collaboration and trust, however, we are not resting on our laurels and are always looking to improve our people practices and culture.
