Overview

Sustainable crop production is dependent on good nutrient management. This involves both nutrient conservation and the judicious application of the nutrients in short supply. In most farming systems, root crops are managed with low inputs. Numerous techniques exist for the diagnosis of nutrition disorders although optimal correction of these disorders is difficult given the variation of farming systems as well as differences in soils and climate. These proceedings summarise the views and observations of participants of a workshop held in Tonga in April 1995, and describes the priorities for future research, development and extension of root crop nutrition.
