Overview

This project aimed to deliver a collaborative and competitive grant scheme for agricultural research in Lao PDR.

Agriculture remains a major sector of the economy of Lao PDR and is dominated by subsistence farming. The Lao Government has made modernising the agricultural sector in a manner that fully meets sustainable practices and achieves food security and better livelihoods for all Lao people a top priority for agricultural development. Vision 2020 for Lao PDR includes seven priority program areas, one of which is strengthening the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), as well as local institutions, with respect to applied research and extension.

Project outcomes

This project improved the research capacity of Lao PDR researchers and their institutions, and improved the capacity of Lao PDR to get research and development funding from other donors.
