Improving food security and farmers’ livelihood through productive and sustainable crops The Crops Program aims to increase the productivity and sustainability of major crops by exploring improved varieties and new crop management methods. The program is built on two complementary themes of genetics and sustainable intensification and diversification.

Community-based sandfish sea ranching in the Philippines: Exploring social factors influencing success

The mariculture of sea cucumbers, and in particular sandfish (Holothuria scabra), is regarded as an economically attractive enterprise to meet several challenges faced by small-scale coastal fishing communities in the Philippines. Community-based sandfish sea ranching is still in its early stages in the Philippines, but potentially can contribute to livelihoods and help replenish wild stocks.
