Overview

Peanuts are an important cash crop for many smallholder farmers in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The area planted to peanuts is expanding at smallholder level and substantial areas of commercial production are also being planted which should lead to significant expansion of the industry over the next five years. This project kick-started the re-emergence of a peanut industry in the Markham Valley based on seed and product quality, private sector involvement, production at two levels (estate and smallholder) and indigenous leadership of a high calibre.
