Overview

Leucaena leucocephala has been one of the most productive and versatile multipurpose tree legumes available to tropical agriculture but there is gathering recognition that the germplasm used around the world is derived from too narrow a genetic base. The Leucaena genus contains 16 or more species with potential for use in agriculture. These proceedings provide an update on progress with research on multipurpose trees in general and leucaena in particular. They include details on priorities for future research and the establishment of LEUCNET, the international network to promote leucaena research and development worldwide.
