Overview

Food legumes are grown throughout Asia for human and animal nutrition. They are an important source of food protein, yet food legume production is stable or declining in many countries. A workshop was held in Khon Kaen, Thailand in September 1986 to address the limitations to productivity and adaption of food legumes in the farming systems of Asia. These proceedings consist of 16 review papers covering eight major aspects of food legume production and 148 short communications devoted to more specific instances of food legume production throughout the Asian region. Major issues are summarised in an overview paper, and there are guidelines for future research, development and extension. Proceedings of an international workshop held at Khon Kaen, Thailand 1-5 September, 1986.
