Overview

This project aimed to improve farmer incomes in northwest China through the adoption of practical and low-cost technologies of rain water harvesting and in-field soil water conservation in dryland farming systems of Gansu and Shaanxi provinces.

Millions of farmers and 51 million ha farmland in northwest China, and in south-western Australia, could benefit from the outputs of this project.

Project outcomes

  • Assessed and developed appropriate rainwater harvesting and soil water conservation technologies.
  • Implemented effective use of limited and minimal supplemental water for high water productivity and high economic outcomes.
  • Promoted rainwater harvesting and soil water conservation.
