Overview

This project increased catchment productivity, made dryland areas more productive, and improved rural people's livelihoods.

Investment in soil and water conservation and associated technologies is critical for increasing food security and improving rural livelihoods in Afghanistan, which lacks trained personnel to support agricultural research and development.

The project focused on wheat-based farming systems, enhancing conservation practices and demonstrating more efficient use of natural resources. The project also built the capacity of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock personnel in the area of natural resource management and wheat/legume productivity, and encouraged project partners and farmers to share knowledge.
