Overview
Leather production is a major industry in India and makes a significant contribution to the country's export earnings. A major concern to the industry, regulatory bodies and the general public is the safe and long-term management of chromium-rich and saline waste effluents from tanneries. This publication reports on a workshop held in India in 1998 to share experiences and demonstrate that certain commercial tree and flowering plants can be grown on land contaminated with tannery waste.
