Overview
This Annual Operational Plan outlines ACIAR’s priorities and activities for 2026–27. It provides an overview of the key trends, opportunities and challenges influencing our work, and highlights the important programs and partnerships that support our research investments across the Indo-Pacific region and Africa.
The plan describes how we pursue our mandate with partner countries to build the partnerships, knowledge and capacity to achieve more productive and sustainable agricultural systems, while considering the dynamic operating environments in which we work.
Our work supports Australia's International Development Policy. Our priorities are locally led, determined through close consultation with our partner countries to ensure that Australia makes meaningful and impactful investment in agricultural research for development.
The ACIAR 10-Year Strategy 2018–2027 guides the planning of our research program and brokering of science partnerships, so that our investments best serve smallholder farmers, fishers and foresters and contribute to national and global targets for sustainable and resilient food production systems.
ACIAR-funded research, while primarily helping smallholder farmers and their communities, also benefits Australian agriculture through the development of new technologies, access to improved crop varieties, protection from pests and diseases, and increased skills and knowledge of Australian researchers.
