Research need
The aim of this small research activity is to support the expansion of climate-resilient and inclusive aquaculture systems in Egypt and Nigeria.
Egypt and Nigeria account for around 72% of Africa's aquaculture production, but the sector faces growing pressure from climate change, water scarcity, salinity, rising energy costs, inadequate supply of high-quality fish seed and postharvest losses. Limited access to suitable technologies also affects productivity, profitability and the livelihoods of people who depend on aquaculture.
The project will assess climate-smart aquaculture systems and technologies in both countries and strengthen the capacity of fish producers, hatcheries, researchers, private companies and women involved in aquaculture value chains. The research will generate comparative evidence and validate technology packages to support the adoption and scaling of climate-smart aquaculture practices.
