Overview
This project aimed to improve smallholder farm and livelihood productivity with a focus on innovation in soil management and improvement.
The research revealed that poverty is a complicated and context-dependent issue that needs a careful understanding of local communities and their ways of making a living. Some of the main findings are:
- Poverty differs across regions and communities because of many factors, such as geography, infrastructure, and social and economic situations.
- Rural poor households rely mostly on farming, while those who have got out of or avoided poverty have more varied income sources, such as veggie and livestock sales.
- Access to agricultural inputs and technologies, such as fertilisers, seeds, and 2-wheel tractors, can improve productivity and income for rural poor households.
