ACIAR is committed to funding research into profitable agribusiness systems in eastern Indonesia. The methodologies outlined in this toolbook for practitioners of value-chain analysis were originally published in English by Agricultural Development International. They have been updated and translated into Indonesian, and will be used to analyse and identify agribusiness development opportunities and interventions that have the potential to improve livelihoods of the poor in Indonesia.

A guide to upland cropping in Cambodia: soybean

In response to the Royal Cambodian Government’s National Poverty Reduction Strategy (2003–2005), ACIAR funded research to develop sustainable farming systems for crops, with a focus on maize, soybean, sesame, mungbean, peanut and cowpea in upland areas of Kampong Cham and Battambang provinces. The aim was to help reduce poverty and contribute to food security at household and national levels through the development of technologies and opportunities for the production of non-rice upland crops.

Beef production in crop–livestock systems: simple approaches for complex problems

ACIAR has supported cattle health and production research programs in many countries, focusing on component technologies such as forages, epidemiology, vaccine development, nutrition and genetics. Increasing focus has been given to understanding how these technologies can be adapted to and integrated into smallholder farming systems. The case studies presented here highlight the approaches that have been taken by recent ACIAR-funded projects in Indonesia, Vietnam and China.

Jorani and the green vegetable bugs [Lao translation]

This is the Lao translation of MN137, a book for primary school children for use in the ‘Life Skills’ part of the Cambodian School curriculum. It will teach children about integrated pest management (IPM) in crops and the positive impact on the environment. IPM is aimed at reducing pesticide use, which will benefit the environment and human health. Children are very good at understanding environmental issues like this and take the messages home to their parents.

Integrated pest and disease management for sustainable cocoa production: a training manual for farmers and extension workers – 2nd edition

This booklet is the second edition of the original monograph published in 2008. New management approaches, based on sound agronomic practices and integrated pest and disease management (IPDM) strategies, have been developed to assist farmers to optimise their cocoa production. The revised edition encompasses updates, particularly to the sections on IPDM and cocoa pod borer.
